High-Mileage Oil Changes: What to Know

If your vehicle has a lot of miles on it, you have probably seen oils marketed specifically for higher-mileage engines. Here is what that actually means, and how to decide whether it is right for you.

What high-mileage oil is designed for

High-mileage oils are formulated with higher-mileage engines in mind. Our high-mileage oil change starts at $59.99 for up to 4 quarts, or $79.99 if your vehicle needs a full 5 quarts. Like every oil, though, a high-mileage formulation still needs to meet your manufacturer’s specification for grade and standard. The “high-mileage” label does not override what your engine actually requires.

Important: we do not recommend high-mileage oil based on your odometer alone. The deciding factor is always whether the oil meets your vehicle’s specification.

Is it right for your vehicle?

For some engines, a high-mileage oil that meets the required specification is a perfectly reasonable choice. For others, the manufacturer’s standard oil is exactly what is called for. The best way to decide is to check your owner’s manual for the required specification and then ask us whether a high-mileage option that meets it is available for your vehicle.

What we will and will not claim

We will help you choose an oil that meets your vehicle’s requirement. We will not claim that a particular oil repairs an engine, reverses wear, or guarantees a specific outcome. Maintenance supports your vehicle; it is not a fix for an existing mechanical problem.
